Yang Shaobin chronicles the insuperable drama of the one-child family. Large-scale abortions became a means to achieve nationwide birth control. Parents of the ‘one-child generation’ tended to prefer having a boy. During the noughties, the shortage of girls produced a lost generation. Mosquito and Moths shows how the drama unfolds, hidden behind a young generation who were born under the one-child policy in China.
