Dennis Oppenheim, still from 8mm film video tape, 1970

The ‘earth art’-projects of Dennis Oppenheim show the relation between humans and nature. He investigates the indisputable dominant traces of man and also uses his own body for this. In his ‘body art’, Oppenheim proves himself to be a part of the universe and demonstrates, among other things, how the sun burns his skin. Other work shows his public monumental sculptures, they accentuate the impact on human society.

In the experiment ‘Rocked Circle – Fear’, the artist places himself as a prisoner in the limited space of a circle, where he is “stoned”. A videotape records this performance and shows his direct facial expressions. These are human reactions of fear.
