HANS FOHAN, oil on canvas, 2017
Hans Fohan paints the essence as an important detail of a larger whole and then leaves everything to the viewer. His white canvas offers physical and mental space in a time full of excess and chaos. The artist serenely embraces the “Amor Vacui” or the “love for emptiness”. When, in the 1960s, minimalism was a reaction to abstract expressionism and pop art, they worked with a systematically ordered vitalism. Hans Fohan principally chooses the precise biomorphic shape and thus limits the perfect balance on the white canvas. His ‘tabula rasa’ hold back from any impulse and do not impose themselves any further. His innovative oil paintings develop a silence in a restless world, are universal and lead the viewer to the ultimate confrontation of painting.
